As a Split Rock Studios (SRS) Estimator, you will utilize your experience with custom fabrication, fact-finding skills, and problem-solving experience to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and clear documentation for project estimates.

Job Responsibilities:
In-House Design Projects
- Meet with design teams to review design drawings, from concept to detailed design
- Ask questions about design intent and anticipated fabrication methods, providing alternatives and value engineering suggestions where appropriate
- Utilize historical data from previous projects to compute labor, materials, and subcontractor costs as related to the design
- Work with design teams to identify potential cost savings or alternatives to get projects into budget
Sales Projects
- Review bid packages for Build-Only projects, determining the appropriate costs for a range of fabricated elements from custom cabinetry to artistic scenic elements
- Generate questions from bid packages to clarify design intent and desired fabrication methods
- Advise Business Development staff on profitability of potential projects
- Attend pre-bid meetings as needed
Cost Tracking
- Assess cost effectiveness of products and services by tracking actual costs relative to project estimates
- Stay current with pricing on materials, hardware, and shipping
- Consult with design and fabrication managers to discuss opportunities for cost-saving fabrication methods
Other
- Participate in and advocate for Split Rock culture, attending company events and investing in cross-departmental relationships
Additional Skills:
- 10+ years fabrication experience, with preference for displays, exhibits, retail, and architectural millwork
- Able to read design drawings, CAD drawings, and blueprints
- Proficient with Google and Office suites, especially Excel
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and skillsets
This is a hybrid position, with at least two days a week at Split Rock (more in the candidate’s first year).
