November 30, 2025
We are honored and thrilled to announce that two Split Rock Studios interpretive exhibits, Ancient Seas at the Indiana State Museum and Tekαkαpimək Contact Station at Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, have earned 2025 Interpretive Media Awards. Presented by the National Association for Interpretation, these honors highlight excellence in communicating natural, cultural, and historical narratives through nonpersonal interpretive services.
Ancient Seas
Split Rock Studios designed and fabricated Ancient Seas at the Indiana State Museum, with interactive media by BPI. This project received an Honorable Mention for Interior Exhibits.
The new Ancient Seas exhibit at the Indiana State Museum transformed the gallery into an immersive experience, bringing the ancient underwater world to life with scenic backdrops, unique specimens, and AR technology.

Tekαkαpimək Contact Station
Tekαkαpimək Contact Station at Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument received the Juror’s Choice Award for Interpretive Media. Tekαkαpimək resulted from a partnership between the Elliotsville Foundation, representatives of the Wabanaki Nations, Saunders Architecture, Reed Hilderbrand Landscape Architecture, WeShouldDoItAll, Tuhura Communications, Erin Hutton Projects, Split Rock Studios, and the National Park Service.
Tekαkαpimək Contact Station exhibits tell the traditional and contemporary Penobscot connections to the region’s watersheds, plants, and animals, seamlessly blending with the architecture to share the Penobscot Nation’s story.
All Wabanaki Cultural Knowledge and Intellectual Property shared within this project is owned by the Wabanaki Nations.
